Biography
Diana Quick (born 1946) was the first female President of the Oxford University Drama Society. After graduating, she appeared in Edward Bond’s Lear and The Sea at London's Royal Court. At the National Theatre, she starred in plays including Phaedra Brittanica, Troilus & Cressida and David Hare’s A Map of the World. With the Royal Shakespeare Company, she played in The Women Pirates and The Changeling.
With this sound foundation, Diana Quick was able to triumph in a wide variety of parts on stage and television and in films. She has continuously and successfully worked in the theatre in productions as various as the West End musicals The Threepenny Opera & Billy as well as, in 1991-2, her own translation of Simone de Beauvoir’s A Woman Destroyed, a one-woman show that has toured theatres throughout the country.
She made her professional debut on TV in Hunter Davies’ The Playground (1967). Many other appearances have followed, including playing Julia Flyte in Brideshead Revisited (1981), for which she was nominated for Bafta and Emmy Awards. Her films include Franklin Schaffner’s Nicholas & Alexander (1971), Ridley Scott’s The Duellists (1977), Michael Winner’s The Big Sleep (1978), Michael Tuchner’s Wilt (1989) and Roger Christian’s Nostradamus (1994).
