Biography
Hetty King (1883-1972) was a famous male impersonator. Born Hetty Emms, she was the daughter of William Emms, a well known music-hall comedian who had adopted the stage name, William King. She first appeared on stage, with her father, when she was 6 years old.
She began appearing as a debonair man-about-town in 1905. She rapidly became a music-hall star and topped the bill throughout Britain and in many other countries. Her two greatest songs, All the Nice Girls Love a Sailor and Piccadilly. During both World Wars, she normally dressed in a soldier's or sailor's uniform.
She continued appearing in variety, pantomime and summer shows until shortly before her death at the age of 89, her stage career have lasted for over eighty years.
