Biography
HONOR BLACKMAN was born in 1926 and trained at London’s Guildhall School of Music and Drama. After graduating in 1945, she became an understudy in a West End play, The Guinea Pig. When the lead actress fell ill, she took over the part and this led to become a contract player for the Rank Organisation where she was groomed to be an ’English-rose’ actress. She appeared in many films over the next 15 years but stardom eluded her. It came, not in films, but on television when, 1962, she was cast as leather-clad karate expert Cathy Gale in the British TV adventure series The Avengers. She left after two years and shortly afterwards was given the part that made her an international star – playing Pussygalore in the James Bond film Goldfinger (1964).
Since then, she has played a wide variety of parts in films & TV dramas and on stage. In 2001, she played a cameo part in Bridget Jones’s Diary.
