Pearl WhiteBiography
Pearl White (1889-1938) first appeared on the stage when she was 6 and, for several years, was a successful child performer. But it was as the star of over a hundred silent films that she became internationally famous – with her long blond hair, pretty face, impressive figure and her hair-raising stunts. Her best remembered film was made early in career – The Perils of Pauline (1914). Her Hollywood film career ended abruptly in 1923 and she left the US for Europe.

In 1924 she made a French serial and then, in London, returned briefly to the stage. But she was already suffering from poor health (due partially to the effects on her body of her stunt work) and she wasn’t the success she had hoped to be. She returned to Paris where she lived until her early death.
